September 11th - 12th, 2010

What happens when 1000 Island DockDogs gets together with eight local Animal Rescue organizations?

A Splashing good time at an action-packed canine sport, open to dogs of all breeds and pet lovers of all ages!

Take The Plunge is a two-day outdoor festival (rain or shine) which will raise money for eight local animal rescue organizations in Ottawa. This exciting family oriented event will be held on the grounds of the Rideau Carleton Raceway on September 11th and 12th 2010 starting at 9:00am both days and will feature 1000 Island DockDogs.

DockDogs is the world’s fastest growing canine sport, involving a 40' dock and 40' pool, water, any breed of dog and a floatable toy. Most DockDogs Competitions are comprised of three main contests; BIG AIR, EXTREME VERTICAL and SPEED RETRIEVE. DockDogs was started in 2000 and is a fun event that is open to any dog.  Not only is it fun for dog owners, it's a great event for the family to watch as dogs compete in each category.

In addition to participating in, or watching, the dock diving events, visitors to Take the Plunge will be able to browse many local vendors, bid on great silent auction items, meet representatives from local animal rescue groups, test their skill at games and be treated to some exciting animal related demos throughout the weekend.  Admission to the site is $5 per person and free for children under 12 years of age.  Registration fees for your dog to participate in the DockDogs competition are $20 per dog per wave in advance or $25 on-site.

Take the Plunge is being organized by:

Each year these dedicated rescues take in unwanted Dogs, Cats and Ferrets, rehabilitate them, and find them new forever homes.  These efforts take a significant amount of time and money to continue operating.  Events like Take the Plunge help ease the financial burden on these organizations.
